Belmont University's Leu Gallery selected "Swinging Over the Harpeth" for its special exhibition called "Saving Paradise" conducted June 1 through August 5, 2010. In the December 2009 Fine Art Views Competition, "Swinging over the Harpeth" was selected by Nancy Guzik, acclaimed painter and wife of Richard Schmid (internationally famous Master Painter), as one of her favorite paintings. The painting was ranked in the top 15% in a field of more than 500 paintings.
Tommy Thompson painted "Swinging Over the Harpeth" after watching some teenagers swinging over the Harpeth River on a rope swing off Old Natchez Trace Road west of Franklin, TN. This activity is a great summer pastime in the South.
