Composite Drawings of Small-Town America

Because I paint almost every day, we have started a new collection where we will be posting the paintings that are fresh off my new easel.
|

|
|
Lately I have been fascinated with painting oversize works. Oversize paintings present many more challenges than small works; therefore, planning the composition is extremely important. Oversize paintings put much more pressure on the painter.
|
|
|
|
Because we spend so much of our waking hours at our desks, I am now producing oil paintings that allow the viewers to escape into a peaceful scene. These small original oils can be displayed on small easels or framed.
|
|
|
|
Tommy Thompson and his two daughters, Michelle Rideout and Melanie Gentle, have produced composite pencil drawings of more than 350 towns across 12 Southern states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. For horse lovers, I am now focusing on painting these beautiful creatures in landscapes.
|
|
|
|
I have always enjoyed drawing faces. I also enjoy sketching figures as I wait while my wife shops. Another pastime of mine is drawing faces of the "talking heads" on television.
|
|
|
|
Because I grew up on a farm, I have fond memories of the serene life found there.
|
|
|
|

Two of my favorite places to paint are North Haven Island, Maine, and Narragansett, Rhode Island, where I have painted several times with my good friends, George Walker and Mimi Sammis.

|
|
Because of many years of work in the illustration field, I have always been inspired by interesting architecture.
|
|
|
|
These paintings of various locales include those painted onsite or in the studio.
